José Antonio Rodríguez Trio

Comments Print article

Be transported to flamenco’s heartland in the spectacular opening night concert of the Adelaide International Guitar Festival. One of SA’s favourite flamenco companies Flamenco Areti opens the evening with a dazzling display of fiery footwork. Following their performance one of Spain’s favourite sons José Antonio Rodríguez will perform in Adelaide for the first time with his trio.

Flamenco Areti is Adelaide’s premier Flamenco Performance Ensemble. Director Areti Boyaci is a long established and highly regarded flamenco dancer and teacher, with over 20 years’ experience.  Boyaci has produced flamenco productions with Australia’s most renowned flamenco performers as well as with guest artists from Spain, to national acclaim. The ensemble will be performing with special guest artists Tomás Arroquero, classical and jazz guitarist Kieren Ray and the brilliant cantaor, Antonio Soria.

Through a pioneering partnership with the Adelaide International Guitar Festival’s sister event, the Córdoba Guitar Festival in Spain, internationally renowned composer and performer José Antonio Rodríguez and his trio come to Australia for the first time. Direct from the heart of Andalusia, Rodríguez embodies the music and ideology of flamenco with the exquisite sensitivity of his playing, perfectly balancing delicate ornamentation with passionately sensual spirit.

The shared vision between the Adelaide and Córdoba festivals will strengthen the relationship of the two cities and will continue to develop with artist exchanges, co-commissioning of new music for guitar and other collaborations.

The fifth Adelaide International Guitar Festival hits town this July for one glorious weekend. Truly extraordinary players from diverse musical traditions will perform in Australia for the first time, sharing the stage with some of our nation’s most innovative and accomplished guitarists. Immerse yourself in the variety and depth of experiences offered over the four days, from some of the best musicians from Adelaide, Australia and the world.

José Antonio Rodríguez Trio plus special guests Flamenco Areti perform in the Festival Theatre on Thursday 17 July. Tickets are on sale now at
