Debashish Bhattacharya
InReview

Experience a very rare performance from extraordinary slide guitarist Debashish Bhattacharya as part of the 2014 Adelaide International Guitar Festival.
A player of supreme grace, Bhattacharya comes to Australia from India for the first time for this year’s festival, bringing with him his extraordinary instrumental arsenal.
While his style is steeped in Indian classical music, he is a tireless innovator, credited with the design of the Hindustani guitar and the ‘Trinity of Guitars’: his lap-slide chaturangui, 14-stringed gandharvi and the anandi, a four-string slide ukulele. He has won accolades for his extensive exploration of widely diverse musical styles as well as for his continual collaborations.

In his quest for the Indian slide guitar to be recognised on the world music map, Bhattacharya has played more than 3000 concerts around the globe, all the while teaching, designing guitars and recording 15 albums. His 2012 release Beyond the Ragasphere, featuring dobro master Jerry Douglas, is hailed as a triumph of world fusion.
Debashish Bhattacharya brings his spellbinding slide guitar to the Festival with tabla accompaniment by Subhasis Bhattacharjee, plus tanpura and vocals by Anandi Bhattacharya.
