Arts spotlight: New ways to fund the arts and artists

InReview

Has Australia got arts funding all wrong? Join InReview and Light for a series of forums on important topics affecting the arts and artists in South Australia beginning with the key question of funding.

Print article

InReview and Light, an innovative arts and hospitality venture on Light Square, will this year present a series of provocative forums on the future of the arts in South Australia – Spotlight on the Arts.

Join our expert panel at The Lab on April 20 for the first in the series. We’ll discuss all the issues surrounding funding, from the basic artists’ wage being applied in some European countries to the rise of philanthropically supported programs to the sometimes vexed relationship between government, companies and individual artists.

As the pandemic continues to damage performing opportunities for artists and the commercial proposition of venues and producers, can we find a better way to fund artists and arts companies?

InReview’s David Washington will unpack the issues with a panel including philanthropist and Light founder Nick Dunstone, Vitalstatistix director Emma Webb and UniSA professor of cultural economy Justin O’Connor.

There will be plenty of time for questions from the audience and the event will be recorded by InReview for release as a podcast.

Your attendance will not only give you the chance to participate but, for a small cover charge, you will be supporting the not-for-profit work of both InReview and Light. You will also have the opportunity to take up a special dinner offer at Light’s restaurant Aurora.

Our first spotlight forum will be at The Lab at Light on April 20, from 5pm to 7pm.
