Review: Stephen K Amos
Adelaide Fringe
What would life be like if the internet crashed all over the world? It’s just one of the questions Stephen K Amos poses in this surprisingly political and highly recommended stand-up show. ★★★★½
I first saw Stephen K Amos in 2013 and he made an impression then as a comedian who could handle a horrible heckler. This time around there were no hecklers, but there were some audience members who were keen to participate and Amos was more than generous in including their banter in the show.
One woman happily declared she’d been on national television on the Million Hot Seat and had everyone in stitches when it was revealed she had won only $1000.
Amos’s World Famous Fringe show is a surprisingly political hour, wandering between Trump, ISIS and casual racism.
His strength is in pointing to the obvious mistakes we all make when we interact with people without thinking clearly, including his own interaction with the Queen.
He also allows us to imagine what life would be like if the internet went down all over the world. It would basically be like the Night of the Living Dead, but instead of turning into zombies we’d turn back into real people.

Throughout the hour-long performance, the laughs came thick and fast.
Because we were a fabulous Wednesday night audience, Amos decided to try out some of the jokes for his new show on us. In effect, this meant an extra 40 minutes of entertainment, which was both generous and very funny.
Amos is an amazing stand-up and I can’t recommend his show highly enough.
Four-and-a-half stars
Stephen K Amos is presenting World Famous at the Arts Theatre until March 19.
