Vivien Wade’s Painted Sky is a pantoum, a poem style using interwoven repeating lines that comes from the traditional Malay verse form of pantun berkait.

Painted Sky

The sun sinks slowly in the west,
Spreading swirls of red and orange light,
When behind clouds dipping to rest,
Darkness will soon become night.

Spreading swirls of red and orange light,
These colours begin fading away.
Darkness will soon become night,
While I hope for another such day.

These colours begin fading away,
Disappearing from out of my view,
While I hope for another such day,
A praise for God’s nature is due.

Disappearing from out of my view,
This painting on sky’s been a fest,
A praise for God’s nature is due
As the sun sinks slowly in the west.

Vivien Wade lives in one of Adelaide’s southern seaside suburbs, where she belongs to a south coast poetry group. Born at Magill and trained as a milliner before qualifying as a midwife, she and her husband were married during their ministerial training at Bible College.

Readers’ original and unpublished poems up to 30 lines can be emailed, with postal address, to poetscorner@solsticemedia.com.au. A poetry book will be awarded to each contributor.
