The trip of a lifetime becomes a terrifying nightmare in this gripping new novel from thriller writer Sarah Lotz.

Day Four is set on luxurious cruise ship the Beautiful Dreamer, which has left Miami for a five-day cruise through the Gulf of Mexico. Among those on board is Madeline, who spends her days struggling to deal with the incessant demands of her employer, renowned psychic and resident special guest entertainer Celine del Ray.

While Celine wows the crowds with her gift, Madeline spends her time reminiscing on the mistakes which led her to this ship – but she is not the only passenger harbouring a secret.

Then Beautiful Dreamer mysteriously loses power on the fourth day of its journey, leaving those on board adrift and with no way to call for help. As the hours tick by, a series of strange events ensues: several passengers fall ill with a mysterious virus, then the body of a young woman is discovered and panic spreads, with whispers of a ghost terrorising the crew.

Is someone or something out to destroy the Beautiful Dreamer?

Lotz has the unnerving ability to simultaneously captivate and terrify her readers, and has expertly crafted a world full of secretive characters which never feels clichéd or overdone. She had me hooked from the first page.

Each chapter in Day Four is presented from the viewpoint of a different passenger and this enables the reader to experience the story from multiple angles. Cryptic chapter titles offer a hint of the personalities and dark secrets of each character, but each chapter also raises more questions than it answers.

Despite referencing events which occurred in Lotz’s previous book The Three, Day Four is a stand-alone story. Combining elements of murder, mystery and a hint of the supernatural, it is an imaginative read that will hold you in its choking grasp until the final, explosive chapters.
