Poem: Water Song

Books & Poetry

This week’s Poet’s Corner ‘forever Australian summer’ contribution is from Warren Paul Glover.

Print article

Water Song

It’s in the roaring of the surf,
the splashing of beachy frolics in the waves.

It’s in the thudding of the drops
on the corrugated iron roof,
the drip, drip, drip from the drainpipe.

It’s in the splish, splish sploshing
of dancing in puddles after a drought,
in the tears of laughter giving thanks for rain.

It’s in the gurgle of a new-born baby;
our future,

maybe.

It’s the stuff of life we can’t do without.
The quencher of thirst.

A cloud burst; a deluge to top up the dam,
to fill our reservoirs and flood our stormy hearts.

That sound of roaring surf
and the splashing of beachy frolics in the waves.

Our forever Australian summer.
Water song.
