History

“We are not makers of history. We are made by history.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.

What great works have you achieved
all your lives have been weaved,
your families did they grieve,
but whose memories can now retrieve?

Days have long since gone
where all of you were pawns
from spear to bow,
all your lives were disallowed,
with weapons do we now make clouds.

But who lives now that can remember those days?
Did the horses really ride across the land ablaze?
Who really did give chase?
From one side of the earth to the other,
could their tales really be replaced?

All that is left are those statues
their faces now a deep blue.
Words written by those after are all
that we can now pursue.
What is left for us to know?

Andrew Pfeffer lives in Brisbane and is an aspiring young writer in his final year of high school.

Readers’ original and unpublished poems of up to 40 lines can be emailed, with postal address, to poetscorner@solsticemedia.com.au. Submissions should be in the body of the email, not as attachments. A poetry book will be awarded to each accepted contributor.
