Poem: Questions on a Journey
Books & Poetry
Casual questions giving food for thought are the inspiration for this week’s Poet’s Corner contribution from Phil Saunders.
Questions on a Journey
one
pain killer capsule
breaking in front pocket
of backpack
which I had long before
they were fashionable
leaving white powder residue
over assorted debris
for anyone glimpsing contents
would reputation be ruined
or enhanced
two
is it the romance of
the drive-in theatre screen
that I see
rising above outer suburban skyline or
that scourge of modern highways
the advertising hoarding
three
at day’s beginning
mind full of worries
could the train’s whisper
relieve me of their burden
four
can the 6:52
Normanhurst to Central
be a romantic journey
five
can the rising sun
glinting through the trees
ever be a cliché
