Almost 90,000 celebrate WOMADelaide's 25th anniversary

GALLERY: Changeable weather may have contributed to a slight drop in numbers at WOMADelaide this year, but almost 90,000 people still gathered in Botanic Park to see more than 400 artists over the long weekend.

Highlights included Austrian electro-swing act Parov Stelar; Mali singer Inna Modja; The Phillip Glass Ensemble’s performance of the live score for Koyaanisqatsi; immersive fire installation Cie Carabosse; New Orleans jazz-funk outfit The Hot 8 Brass Band; high-energy Malian big band Bamba Wassoulou Groove, and British ska band The Specials, who performed the closing show last night.

“It has been a tremendous celebration for our 25th anniversary – a fantastic program which was embraced by a wonderfully receptive and appreciative WOMADelaide audience,” said director Ian Scobie.

The 2016 WOMADelaide broke previous crowd records, with around 95,000 people attending over four days in near-perfect weather.
