New Adelaide season announced for Six the Musical
Music
Six the Musical – the hit show that sees Henry VIII’s six wives transformed from Tudor queens into pop princesses – is coming to Her Majesty’s Theatre in May 2022.
New dates were announced today for the production, which was originally going to be the first show in the newly rebuilt Her Maj in June last year until COVID-19 brought touring to a halt.
Six has since played a sold-out season at the Sydney Opera House early this year, and will return there in December before travelling to Canberra and then Adelaide.
After starting out as a student production co-created by young Cambridge University graduates Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, the musical has become something of a phenomenon, winning multiple awards, and playing to packed houses on the West End and Broadway. The studio album has been streamed more than 200 million times.
Described by its promoters as witty, pop-fuelled and sassy, Six is performed with a live band (the Ladies in Waiting) and features an all-female cast playing the Tudor/pop queens as they take turns at the mic, reclaiming their stories.
“Six is a joyous celebration of sisterhood,” The Guardian’s reviewer wrote of the Australian production during its Sydney Festival season. “It’s the kind of show that makes you want to be a teenager again.”
The Adelaide season of Six the Musical will open on May 21, 2022, with tickets on sale from November 26 (waitlist open from today). The last musical to play here was Chess the Musical, which had a short run at Her Majesty’s Theatre in May this year.
