Review: Undercover Adelaide – The Spy Experience
Adelaide Fringe
This interactive Fringe experience offers the chance to put your spy skills to the test on the streets of Adelaide. ★★★★
Fancy yourself as the next James Bond? Think you have what it takes to survive in the dangerous world of covert spies?
You can prove your skills and evade surveillance in the immersive, action-packed adventure Undercover Adelaide: The Spy Experience.
Presented by Adelaide expatriates Fire Hazard, Undercover Adelaide sees participants racing through the streets of the Adelaide CBD to successfully complete a series of covert missions before time runs out. But beware, rival spies are tracking your every move – and on the busy city streets, everyone is a suspect.
Your mission begins in the Aperitif Bar at Ibis Adelaide, where you receive your first instructions and, if you are lucky, advice from senior agents. From there, you must make your way across the city to a secret location and your first mission.
Throughout the 100-minute experience, operatives receive instructions from “headquarters” via a secure app on their phone and will be asked to participate in missions which may include making “drop-offs”, conducting surveillance on other spies, intercepting coded messages and making contact with cleverly disguised senior agents.
Each successful mission earns participants points and those with high enough scores at the end of the session may just find themselves being recruited by Britain’s top spy agency, “BIRD”.

Your success in these missions depends entirely on your ability to blend in – which is not always easy when you have to consult your phone every few minutes or stop to read coded messages and maps – but this is all part of the challenge. Each mission must be completed within the set time limit and this added pressure forces you to be creative with how, why and when you make your move.
On the streets, it’s almost impossible to know if you are being followed, and a good knowledge of the city wii prove advantageous (but if you are unfamiliar with Adelaide, don’t despair; maps are provided upon successful completion of a rendezvous with senior spies).
Undercover Adelaide: The Spy Experience is a fast-paced, fun-filled adventure that challenges participants’ capabilities and creativity. It’s spy games without the danger.
Four stars
There will be further sessions of Undercover Adelaide – The Spy Experience on Feburary 28 and March 6 and 13. It leaves from The Aperitif Bar, Ibis Adelaide.
