Unicorn design harnesses the magic of Fringe

A pop-art-style pink and green unicorn design that seeks to capture the “mythical and magical” spirit of the Adelaide Fringe has been chosen as the official poster for next year’s event.
Unveiled this morning at the Adelaide City Council, the design was created by Barossa-based graphic designer Jennifer Rimbault.
“I think the festival is as mythical and magical as a unicorn,” Rimbault says of the inspiration for her creation.
“The creature in my poster isn’t what people would expect, though – it is quirky and unusual, just like the Fringe.”
About 200 design submissions were received.
Fringe director Heather Croall says Rimbault’s unicorn was the “perfect embodiment” of the festival’s message, which was about discovering the unexpected and taking a risk on the unknown.
“The Fringe transforms Adelaide into a wild wonderland of mythical proportions and it encourages people to step outside their usual schedules and be whatever they want to be,” Croall says. “Jennifer’s design captures that.”
The 2017 Adelaide Fringe will run from February 17 until March 19, with tickets for some 40 events going on sale today.
They include shows by singer, songwriter and playwright Amanda Palmer (The Dresden Dolls); cabaret-circus act Blanc de Blanc (pictured below); comedians Dave Hughes, Wil Anderson, Anh Do, Judith Lucy and Denise Scott; Adelaide mentalist (and Australian Survivor contestant) Matt Tarrant; acrobatic troupe Cirque Africa; the California Crooners Club, featuring Hugh Sheridan; and country music trio The McClymonts.

The full program will be launched in early December.
Fringe has also announced it is introducing a new membership program – open to all ages – which will offer discount prices for some shows, an express ticketing service, giveaways and access to “members’ lounges” at the CBD box offices.
