The group will tour the music from their ARIA number one album Skeleton Tree, released this year alongside the black and white film One More Time With Feeling.
The album was recorded after the tragic death of Cave’s 15-year-old son, Arthur, after a fall from a cliff and the film explores personal moments from Cave and his family following his death while the musician makes the album.
The tour includes this special performance on the banks of Lake Wendouree in Ballarat in regional Victoria where both Cave and his fellow Bad Seed, Warren Ellis, grew up.
Considering the tragic circumstances which influenced the album’s recording, a tour wasn’t necessarily expected.
“It’s beautiful that he’s decided that it’s time and he’s willing to do the music,” Sydney Festival director Wesley Enoch told AAP.
“It’s one of those concerts that I imagine the fans will come and be very supportive of him and care for him. It’s not about taking the music from him, it’s about being there to care for him.”
Performing in the band alongside Cave and Ellis will be Martyn Casey, Thomas Wydler, Jim Sclavunos, Conway Savage, George Vjestica and Larry Mullins.
The group will be supported by experimental trio The Necks for some performances.
