The operatic version of Tim Winton’s ‘Cloudstreet’ has been some years in the making but it has been worth the wait: this stunning production exceeds all expectations.
The Aboriginal storyline within ‘Cloudstreet’ echoes the real-life family history of baritone Don Bemrose, who sings in the new State Opera musical based on Tim Winton’s popular novel.
State Opera’s props crew is on a vintage treasure hunt, scouring second-hand shops, auction websites and backyards for items to re-create the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s setting of Tim Winton’s Australian novel Cloudstreet.
State Opera SA’s production of Cloudstreet is already on track to exceed box-office targets, with company artistic director Timothy Sexton promising audiences will be “gobsmacked” by what they hear.
