It’s time to put on your dancing shoes, kids, and bust a move. ★★★★

Along with circus acts and magic tricks, what do kids really like to see? Bubbles and balloons falling from the ceiling while dance music blasts and videos play on wide-screen TVs? Heck yeah!

Presented by the world-wide smash hit Hot Dub Time Machine, Kid / Dub Time Machine follows a similar format, taking an audience of littlies and their parents on a musical journey from the ’50s to the present in a dance party for people of all ages.

At one point we’re doing The Twist, then later the Macarena; glitter fills the room when Cindy Lauper comes on, while glow sticks make an entrance during a flashback to raves.

DJ Lulu Loud ensures everyone joins the party.

For those shy children who take some encouragement when dancing in public, the video screens are a huge help, showcasing choreographed children dancing to the music. On this particular night, many followed along with them, making House of Pain’s “Jump Around” seriously great bouncing pleasure.

DJ LuLu Loud is wonderful as the spunky and pert leader of the pack, and parents were having as good a time (perhaps an even better time?) as their children, which makes for a fantastic date because I say nothing can make an under-12-year-old kid happier than being around a shamelessly kooky, singing and dancing parent. Let the fun begin.

Four stars

Kid Dub Dance Machine is grooving in the Magic Mirror Spiegeltent, Garden of Unearthly Delights, again on March 18 and 19.
