At Stansbury

Yorke Peninsula, South Australia

Tent torn and binned,
us, wind ravaged too:
we are camp kitchen ice cubes
thawing,
soaked
in the view.

We’ll be checking out
a night early soon,
winds not easing, too strong
for sharks and humans.

We’ll book our next visit
on the way out –
no guarantees the elements
will be tamer by then,
and the stranger truth?
This is why we come.

Coorong

Via pink lake, Meningie, South Australia

I have seen pink created
with crayon, in watercolour,
in oil and pastel,
by new hands and
with seasoned brushes.

None paint the shade
like the skilled fingers
of your salt,
the scumble and sweep of your sky,
bringing contemporary to pink
moment by moment,
painting itself
timeless
beneath the skin.

Linda Kohler lives in Adelaide but grew up on a fruit block outside of Renmark. Her inspiration comes from the natural world and the beauty of the human spirit.
