The performance by Williams – who has sold more than 70 million albums worldwide and had a string of number-one hits – is being described by promoters as one of the biggest concerts held as part of the motor race.

Previous acts have included KISS, Cold Chisel, Powderfinger and Motley Crue.

South Australian Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell hailed Williams’ appearance as a coup for the Adelaide 500 (previously known as the Clipsal 500).

“Robbie Williams is a world-class showman and his performance at next year’s Adelaide 500 is destined to make the 2018 event bigger and better than ever,” he said.

As well as Williams’ hits – including the likes of “Let Me Entertain You”, “Rock DJ” and “Angel” – fans can expect new music from his latest album, The Heavy Entertainment Show, which features collaborations with artists such as Rufus Wainwright and Ed Sheeran.

“The Heavy Entertainment Show is every single moment on earth – we’re all part of The Heavy Entertainment Show,” Williams has said of the album. “I wanted huge choruses, universal lyrics, universal melodies.”

The Adelaide 500 concert will take place on Sunday, March 4, 2018, with tickets on sale from Monday.
